Willing to give Pit bulls a chance?
October 5, 2010
Pit bulls have something of a bad reputation, but Baltimore-area rescue groups are hoping to change people’s minds.
Everyone is invited to a free event on Saturday called Give Pits a Chance.
From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Du Burns Arena in Canton, the event will feature Pit bull training and agility demonstrations, experts in the bully breeds and opportunities to volunteer with organizations that help Pits and to foster the dogs. It’s sponsored by the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance, MidAtlantic Bully Buddies and the Humane Society of the United States.
“As you know, Pit bull-type dogs are often the victims of abuse,” says Aileen Gabbey, executive director of the Maryland SPCA, part of the Animal Welfare Alliance. “This is a way to let people know how they can help.”
If you bring a pet supply to donate, you’ll get a raffle ticket at the door. Kids are welcome but dogs and other animals are not.
