Last Update: 10:54 amShe was found roaming the streets of Baltimore, covered from head to toe in sticky white paint. This is just the latest case of potential animal cruelty in the city.
ABC2 News Joce Sterman has more on how this dog is getting a second shot at a better home.
Phoenix was the puppy who pulled on heartstrings because of what he endured. The pit bull was set on fire over the summer may have been one of the city’s most alarming cruelty cases, but he’s far from their only victim. Jennifer Mead-Brause with BARCS says, “We’ve seen dogs come in all sorts of conditions. It’s really sad and most often they’re abandoned animals.”
And when it comes to the latest abandoned animal rescuers are dealing with, it’s hard to see what was done to her. But the name their latest rescue dog was given explains a lot about the way she was found. They call her Picasso. As Mead-Brause explains, “She was covered in paint.”
And it was so embedded in her fur that when multiple baths couldn’t get it out, staffers at BARCS had to shave her clean. Mead-Brause says, “She was very patient while they bathed her and while they were shaving her down, just friendly with everyone. Her tail was wagging the whole time, she was licking you.”
Picasso has been moved to the Maryland SPCA on Falls Road for adoption. Her friendly face is now marked with scars. But Executive Director Aileen Gabbey hopes someone will still this Picasso is truly a masterpiece. She says, “She does need sort of a quiet little space, not too much activity. She really does need to recover from her ordeal.”
It was an ordeal that may have painted this sweet dog’s past in a dark light, but when it comes to her future, that’s a blank canvas.
