From Hillsboro, Texas:
Pit Bull Credited With Saving Life, Home
Jan 14, 2010
A woman and home north of Woodbury were saved recently when her pet awoke her to a house filled with smoke.
Joy Jordon was ill and sleeping at her parents’ home on Farm Road 309 near Farm Road 934 on a recent Sunday afternoon. Lester and Patsy Jordon had taken a church bus for Sunday evening services.
Ms. Jordan said that her pit bull-dog starting barking about 4:30 p.m., waking her up.
A pan of cooking oil had apparently been left on the stove, causing smoke to fill the residence. The woman was able to make her way to the kitchen and started carrying the smoldering pan outside. It caught fire as she reached the door, but there was no damage to the house. Windows and doors were opened to air out the home, but smoke damage was reported.
There were also two kittens and two other dogs in the residence at the time of the incident.
