SALT LAKE CITY – Best Friends Animal Society and Salt Lake County Animal Services want to soften the image of pit bulls and the bad reputation they seem to have. Ed Fritz of Best Friends said, “We are looking for opportunities to have the dogs interact with other dogs and with people and that’s why we have them dressed in silly costumes.”

The pit bull was considered the nanny dog in America for most of the 20th Century, with a reputation of intense human affinity and a great desire to bond with people. “If these dogs are treated with compassion and responsibility, they can be perfectly suitable as family pets,” Fritz said.
